Principal's Message

Dear Potrero Families,

It is with great enthusiasm that I welcome you to a new school year at Potrero Heights Elementary! I hope that you and your loved ones are in good health.

I am excited to inform you that the Montebello Unified School District is opening schools to provide in-person instruction for the 2021-2022 school year. We will also offer Contract Independent Studies as an alternative method of instructional delivery.

I would like to begin by thanking our teachers and support staff who have turned their worlds upside down to meet the needs of our students during the Covid-19 school closure. We recognize and thank them for their efforts in providing the very best distance learning opportunities for every student!

Beginning Monday, August 16, students will start their first day of school and have a full day schedule. School will commence at 8:15 and dismissal is at 2:30. Every Wednesday, all students are on a minimum day schedule and are dismissed at 1:15. We appreciate your prompt drop-off and pick-up of your students.

In order to promote social distancing, we will have three entrances to our school.

  •     Transitional Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and First Grade students will enter through Gate #7 located on the Upper Playground in the back of our school. For the first two weeks of school, August 16 through August 27, TK/K and First grade students will start school at 8:45 and be dismissed at 2:00 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. They will be dismissed at 1:00 on Wednesdays. Parents will need to park on Arroyo Drive and walk their children through Potrero Park to the gate. TK/K and First Grade students will start at 8:15 and be dismissed at 2:30 beginning on August 30, 2021.
  •      Second and Third Grade students will be dropped off in front of the school on Hill Drive and enter through Gate #3 onto the front courtyard of the school.
  •      Fourth and Fifth Grade students will be dropped off at Gate #4 on Hill Drive and walk down the stairs through Gate #4 to the Lower Playground.
  •      Siblings may accompany the youngest child.

All students and personnel must complete a Qualtrics wellness survey online prior to coming onto campus. Parents will complete the survey for young students at home every morning using the student’s email account. The survey may be accessed on the Montebello Unified School District website.  The survey must be completed before any student is admitted onto campus. All students and personnel are required to wear masks. Breakfast and lunch will be served at school. The After School All Stars Program will be open.

Your children are in a kind, nurturing environment where they will be encouraged and supported to work at their highest potential. Our staff is knowledgeable, professional and committed to ensuring that students are safe and are working to the best of their ability.

Please check our school website frequently as that is an important communication tool. I wish you and your child a very successful school year! If you have questions, the school number is 626-307-7010.
